PUTRAJAYA: Interstate travel is still not allowed as many cases of Covid-19 have resulted from it, says Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob ( pic ).
He said the National Security Council special meeting supported statements on the matter issued by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba and Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.
“I want to state here that interstate travel is still not allowed. We know that the people will not like this but it needs to be enforced to stop the Covid-19 infectivity, ” he said on Friday (April 23).
Ismail Sabri said previously, there were 38 clusters resulting from interstate travel with 5,471 cases recorded, and pointed to the Pasai cluster which had caused the number of cases in Sarawak to spike.
He said Kelantan, which was a “green state”, now saw all of its 10 districts categorised as red zones.
Last week, the Health Ministry had proposed that interstate travel for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations be postponed due to the Covid-19 transmission rate still being at worrying levels.
Acryl Sani was reported to have said that interstate movements for employment, medical and educational purposes are only allowed from Monday to Thursday.
Interstate travel for emergency and bereavement purposes would only involve immediate family members.
Interstate movements for social purposes such as attending wedding receptions and other types of functions and banquets are prohibited.
